GST officials to persuade entities to file GSTR-3B

As per the source more than 25,000 taxpayers who have not filed their monthly returns for the month of October till 20th November, will be persuaded by GST officials to file it by 30th November. Further, the government is initiating to cancel GST registration of about 5.43 lakh taxpayers who have not filed their returns for the last six months or more.

The government has directed GST Network along with Tax official to persuade more than 25,000 taxpayers who have not filed their GSTR-3B returns till 20th November for the month of October this year.

“These top 25,000 taxpayers, who have not yet filed their returns, were identified on the basis of last month’s statistics,” said the official. They will be followed up personally by the tax officers in order to get filed their due GSTR-3B for the month by 30th November 2020. All such taxpayers shall be sent SMS and email communications, the official added.

The government is also initiating the process to cancel GST registration of about 5.43 lakh taxpayers who have not filed their returns for the last six months or more, the officials said.

The government has recently launched a massive crackdown against the misappropriation of input tax credit (ITC) through fake invoices. The nationwide drive, launched in the second week of November, has resulted in 85 arrests in 981 cases against over 3,119 fake entities across the country.
